Bicycle Cross-Bar Adaptor
Customer Review :
Good item
This bar fits perfectly my wife's bike, and is indispensable in order to fit the bike on a bike rack.
Rating :
Cool item
Have a woman's bike that did not fit or work on my bike rack. The Allen Tension bar did the trick. It works great! Not to hard to attach to the bike. Would recommend this device.
Rating :
great help!
Great for girls bikes and other bikes with out horizontal cross bar. Keeps bike low on rack so you can see with your rear view mirror. Super easy to use and worth the $$
Rating :
strong and simple
purchased 1 and then a 2nd one for both out bikes, makes it much easier to mount our curved frame bikes on bike rack, very simple to use on and off in seconds, no trouble stratching frame
Rating :
You get what you pay for...
I bought this thinking that this will help me solve the problem of taking my daughter's bike everywhere (a woman's bike)... Oh boy, was I SO WRONG...
Before I tell you what happened, I do admit that this is a pretty easy set up and it seems sturdy enough - but it all end there.
As it happened, we are going for a cycle ride and I strapped both of our bicycles safely and correctly on the rack and went. Not far from the house, the retainer pin didn't managed to keep hold of the bike thus the quick release pins gave way... the result of the bike's big thump on the road and when you are driving it will not be an option to just stop right away resulting the need to dragged the bike to a safe place to park and sort the problem.
When I stopped and looked at the bar itself, I've found out that the retainer pin just broke in half. THIS IS A DANGEROUS FLAW in the design. Both the retainer and the quick release pins are not sturdy enough to carry the weight of the bike (even though it is a light bike) and I am driving in a pretty safe speed, this does not help with the flaw.
This cause the problem for my daughter's bike and I am so glad that it didn't cause a major accident. This might happen...
LIKE I SAID,THIS IS A FLAW IN THEIR PRODUCT.
I would not be buying this product again. Next time, I would think before I buy cheap stuff as you get what you pay for...

Great bike rack
This bike rack was more than I expected; very sturdy, very attractive and easy to install. I highly recommend it.
Rating :
Not suitable for all cars
The construction is good and sturdy, but lacks some kind of a rubber padding that would prevent scratches if metal touches metal - I would not recommend if you have a new car which is not bruised. I also am returning the product as it doesnt fit my 2002 Honda Accord if I need to have it and be able to operate the trunk - it fits but locks the trunk.
Rating :
Did what I needed
This bike rack worked great on my 2009 Prius. I did a road trip with 2 cruisers, no problem. Easy to install/adjust, easy to use with you bikes.
Rating :
Bike Rack
This bike rack was easy to install on my mid-size sedan. It didn't require any adjustments on a 200 mile trip. The main challenge is putting youth bikes on this rack.
Rating :
Great value
I have used the rack about twice a week and it has been great! Very easy to put on any car.

Editorial Review :
4-1/2 stars (out of 5), Bicycling Magazine. A Saris Bones rear rack is one of the few things in life that's both hard working and drop-dead gorgeous. Created by renowned italian designer Fabio Pedrini. The Bones rack gives you more than a stylish alternative to roof racks. It's a stable, secure ride. A system that mounts quickly to almost any vehicle make and model, from sedans to mini-vans-even when there's a rear spoiler involved. And that let's you save your energy for the road or trail.
Customer Review :
Great Rack
First things first, the only reason the rack gets 4 stars is because it scratches the clear coat on the trunk. I understand that this design will have movement since it's secured by the straps, but I am sure it's possible to develop footings from softer material. This model comes with rubber footings. It's not a major complaint, since it's hard to notice clear coat scratches, none the less scratches are there.
I've been using this rack for 2 years now. I have 2 Rockhopper mountain bikes and usually transport them on summer weekends. Regular trip is 120 miles each way. I never had to stop and retighten the straps or do any kind of maintenance on the rack. The installation takes around 15 minutes, mainly because straps are very long and you have to secure the extra slack (wrap it around the main line several times) so it would not dangle on the wind. At first you might be a bit cautions when transport bikes, because they do move on potholes and such, but after few trips the confidence will grow. I like the fact that you can always see the bikes in rear mirror to make sure they are still there. I believe the manufacturer recommends to stay under 75mph when you transport the bikes, but I can say they hold up great even when you go over that speed for sustained periods of time. I live in small apartment and the rack is really compact. Once you take it off, all arms can be untightened and put parallel to each other to save space.
Overall great product.
PROS: Easy to install Very sturdy and compact when stored
CONS: Rubber footings scratch the clear coat on car Long straps dangle on wind if not secured No strap to keep 2nd bike's front wheel from spinning/moving (fixed by piece of rope)

Bike carrier
Mounting the rack on the vehicle is not an easy process. The rack is not designed for cars with plastic bumpers. The thumb screws that tighten the legs & arms are made of cheap black plastic and can easily be stripped. The Saris Bones 805-2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack is poorly designed.
May I suggest you go out and purchase a Thule bike carier, or hitch mount carrier by Thule. You get what you pay for...

Great purchase!
It's a great thing when you see a product you like in a store but you can find it on Amazon for much less! The seller offered free shipping and the delivery took MUCH less time then expected. The package was in great condition and everything was there. I have used my Bones several times and it's great. Thanks!

Fits on my MX-5 Miata!
I never thought I'd find a bike rack for my MX-5. A bike rack? For a two-seater convertible sportscar? Then I saw this on someone else's older Miata, a car even smaller than mine, and had to have it.
It goes on easy, snugs up tight, and the physics of the thing are just remarkable. I think the curves are what make it unshakable, even when I'm going...ahem...let's just say over the speed limit on the interstate.
Could not recommend this more highly.

Had a Couple Issues. Returned.
This is the 3rd 2-bike trunk-rack I've owned. My personal experiences aside, it's still very nice and very well made. My review involves a 2007 Camry Sedan. The construction is very solid. Leaps and bounds above the others I've owned. I like how the weight is distributed to the two-feet on the bumper. Most racks have the load smashing down on the top of your trunk. I didn't like the fact that this unit has side-straps. This is the first 2-Bike carrier I've owned that has side-straps. I found this annoying and just another step in the process. We need to be moving towards *less* straps. Another issue was that the distance between the two bikes cannot be adjusted. Even my old $40 Schwinn trunk rack allowed me to do that. I have two mountain bikes and they were all up in each others business on this rack. There was nothing I could do about it either because the spacing is fixed. It seems that these types of racks are geared towards the more-narrow road-bikes. Almost every video I see has road-bikes on them. Not two hulking mountain bikes. And here comes the deal breaker: the actual hooks. The hooks are very awkwardly designed and I had the most maddening time getting them to hook. The top ones were OK. The side ones took a lot of manipulating (Especially the driver-side for some reason). But the bottom ones...well that was it. They wouldn't slide under the trunk lid for anything. So I opened the trunk to hook them, and then the trunk wouldn't close. And I was smashing down pretty hard on the trunk, too. Too hard to be honest. I never got it to close. All the other racks I've had the hooks were no problem. They just slipped right into the cracks. So I've returned it, frustrated again. My conclusion is that I need to either get 2 road bikes, or just suck it up, get a trailer hitch, and get something like the Saris T-Rax.

False sense of seurity
Thule makes exceptional products. This is not one of them. Use 3' length of chain or braided cable with a sturdy padlock to the frame of your hitch receiver assembly. This is a locking nut that can be easily broken or pryed off by a thief with simple tools.
Rating :
Great product
This is a must have if you have something valuable on your hitch. It's a little pricey, but what can you do.
Rating :
Peace of mind
If you have a thule hitch mounted rack you honestly need to spend the money and install this. People will steal your rack, they have value in the "re-sale" market or for their own use. This will prevent that.
Rating :
Snug-Tite Thule's better idea? A waste of money, an accessory that should have been standard.
I had to reluctantly replace my old Sportworks rack (moved and had no room to transport it)and found that the simple hitch pin/theft deterrent system Sportworks used has not been carried over by Thule. Instead Thule supplies a 12mm x 40mm short threaded bolt. Then I discovered that Thule wants $50 for a hitch pin bolt w/a cheesy looking yuppie lock "system". Sporkworks utilized a simple and practical partially threaded hex head bolt w/a hole on opposite end for attaching a small padlock or cotter pin, simple easy, no rattle w/lock washer and impossible for the pin to completely back off. So I purchased a 12mm dia x 80mm long partially threaded bolt $2.25 that would extend thru the receiver, drilled a hole (you'll want a drill press) that would accommodate a small padlock $1.50 and presto I had an IMO a secure, rattle free "locking hitch pin". The benefit is the bolt extends thru the receiver so the lock is on the opposite side in the event the bolt unthreads it will not come out due to the pad lock and you will not loose your rack & bikes on the road. I am disappointed that Thule did not provide this type of simple bolt set up like Sportworks did as original equipment. The Snug-Tite one key could have remained an option for those who care about such things but a $400.00 rack should come w/a a basic securing system that has a lock & loss prevention capability. Thinking about it I've never seen a hitch pin that did not extend thru the receiver so a cotter pin could not be used to prevent pin loss. If I had to do it over I'd buy a KUAT brand Sherpa or better the NV, they come complete w/integrated hitch & bike locks for the same price, the NV has a built in repair stand. Anybody want to buy my once used Thule T-2?
Rating :
Works as described
This lock works great in locking your bike rack to your hitch. It's easy to remove with a key, and a must for those who keeps their bike rack on their vehicles.

Great product. Some bike frames can be a bit of a challenge with any bike rack but a little creativity never hurts.

Not for an Outback Wagon
I've seen this on trunklids, with bikes or without: appears sturdy and appropriate. Fine.
As for use at the back of a wagon, specifically an Outback, it simply doesn't fit. The side straps don't grab at a good angle because of the interior plastic connected to the hatch. The top straps can't get an easy grab on the metal (even with recommended $20 extra) without bending and threatening to break the back-up light assembly which are positioned above the rear glass.
If you have an Outback, go for a roof rack solution, or spend the $ on a trailer hitch, I suppose.

Awesome, Stable, and Well-made Rack for the Honda Element
I bought this after a cheap rack dented the back clamshell door of my Honda Element due to too much bike movement and loosening tie downs. I borrowed a friend's 3 bike Saris to check the fit on the E and for my racing mountain bikes and loved it. It's easy to assemble and the tie downs crank down tight on the E without any scuffs or damage. I had 3 bikes loaded on it and there was very little movement, even when going 75mph for 400 miles each way. Rack accommodates a range of bikes (some easier than others); I loaded 2 dual suspension bikes and a big beach cruiser with a little bit of engineering. Construction is great, materials are quality. Well worth the investment. This rack should last forever.

Questions & Answers
Question : Can a ski rack support kayaks?
Hi,I'm asking this here as I'm pretty sure most of you have sport racks on your cars to carry your skis/snowboards, etc.I'm on the verge of buying a sportrack for my car, and will definitely get one for winter sports. Does anyone know if there is something that can be added to be able to tie a kayak to it as well in the summer? Or does a kayak entail a new sort of sport rack? Thanks. All help appreciated!
Answer:
Some can be modified to carry a canoe or a kayak. Check with the retail vendor of the brand you are considering. Have fun, be sure to learn the eskimo roll. I see lots of the kayaks on the sport racks around Seattle and Yakima.

Question : Should I keep my car or get an SUV?
I currently drive a 2006 Audi a3 with a manual transmission. New, it was about $30,000. My payments are about $600 per month, not including insurance. I own a boutique and have to haul things like clothing racks, etc... I bought the Audi before I owned the shop, so that didn't go into consideration when I bought it.It is also a stick, which can get quite annoying if I have to take a trip, or drive downtown in the summer traffic. It's very low to the ground as well, and I've more than chipped the rims on curbs. Other than that, it's a perfectly good, extremely safe, reliable car.I think though, I may need an SUV. As I said before, I haul things a lot and need room for it. I also would like the safety and high-ride of an SUV. I don't really care about the gas mileage. I just want a safe car that can haul things and potentially be good for transporting a child (I'm planning on getting pregnant within the next year). Also, an SUV payment would likely be much less than what I'm paying now for the Audi, and I wouldn't have to have "sports car" insurance on it, as I do on the Audi. What should I do? How should I approach my husband about it?
Answer:
you should get the suv and although you waste money you get more space

Question : I have 26k in the bank & am a 25 year old female. I just sold my 96 jeep cherokee sport and need a new car.?
I only make 100 dollars a week if I am lucky by doing minor house cleaning jobs. A jeep or an suv is the only car I feel comfortable driving in. Gas and insurance prices are not an issue. I have been presented with a gift of 7,500 towards a car if I so choose to accept. Do I go out and buy a nice car and have to close my bank account or is that pretty foolish? If so is it equally foolish to buy another older jeep with most likely a bunch of miles racked up on it? What to do? Finally I have also been given the option of a late 90's tbird from the parents. It is a pretty car just so low to the ground I feel like I am sitting on the pavement. btw, the 7,500 is from them as well...I have no clue what I did to deserve such nice folks. One more thing...I have no bills as I live with the bf who supports me and could always move home to the same deal.Oh fellas no need to be hateful! Furthermore I greatly appreciate any serious responces!I sold it b/c its time had come. I was the jeep I received as a gift for my 16th Birthday and now at age 25 I need a change!gearnofear, gerald, and clarkbug i greatly appreciate your imput.Rod, thank you for in the input, not imput as i accidentally typed before. Anyways, I really appreciate the serious replies. I understand that 26k is chump change in the big scheme of things. Trust me I feel like a miser. At my age I should have a BA/BS as opposed to my AA in which people laugh at. Also I should have way more saved in the bank and a career that isn't cleaning houses for 100 bucks a week! I get all this, trust me on that I know I am nowhere near where I should be in life and thank God for the people that are looking after me! What I am trying to do is make a wise choice based on my current situation. Sounds like some of you think used would be okay, others say take the tbird (which is actually my sisters gift car when she turned 16...obviously she has a new car now since she did in fact graduate on time, start a career, buy and house and an suv and so on). As far as distance traveled goes, my house cleaning job is about 6 miles away. Thanks guys!
Answer:
Look out for yourself long term. Avoid debt. You don't have much income. While your savings seems like a large chuck of change, it isn't that much when it comes to getting a brand-spakin' never-been-titled, new-car -smellin' car. You are in a lucky position to not have gas or insurance be an issue, but you shouldn't consider that to be your long term reality. You situation could always change where you don't have that luxury. You really need to make more money if you ever care to be independent and at your age you should be expected to be. Any car now will lose value very quickly, and a brand new car will lose lots of value. Although you can certainly spend money on one, you really can't afford a brand new car. If you really wanted to spend your money, property would be a better investment since it won't lose value. I would recommend getting an affordable used car and not use up your savings. If you don't like your gift car (which is perfectly fine, as far as I'm concerned) try to sell that T-bird and use the money to buy a car you would like. You may want to run the idea by your folks first, because there's a chance that may feel slighted with that plan.Others seem to do a good job of looking out for you. By making wise financial decisions, you'll do a good job of looking out for yourself.

Question : can a luggage rack, car top carrier thing fit?
on a dodge neon sport. no luggage bar things. how would it fit if there no bars?
Answer:
Check with your Dealer. In many models the design of the 'roof carrier' or 'luggage rack' is made in such a way to fit that size by clamps which get the grip on to the roof with adjustable screws.

Question : I'm looking for a good on-line Thule rack dealer anyone have a preference?
I recently got a new SUV and I had an old Thule Ski rack on my car it attached to the Thule square bars I had but now I have a factory rack. What do I need to get to attach this to my new car? There aren't many sporting good stores where I live and I doubt if they would even have what I need. Anyone know a good online source?
Answer:
I'd start at Thules own website and talk to them to figure out what you need then just type the parts into a search engine. Ebay can actually be a good source for stuff like that. So is REI.

Question : Which rack and pinion do I need for a 1997 Dodge Intrepid Sports; 3.5L V6?
I need to figure out what type of rack and pinion is needed for my car. There are three different types, one is eliminated because it's for the 3.3L V6, however that still leaves two different types. I have the Sports version V6, not the ES. None of the mechanics around here are open during the weekends, at least not any of them that either good or are willing to work on it. Please, please help me if you can!!! :)Hmmm... I have called the parts places and told them the year, make, model and they still didn't know because there were two types of rack and pinions listed (so they said). I took it to a mechanic and I was going to get new tires and an alignment. I was told I couldn't get the alignment because of the 'inner tie rod end bushing.' Well, I took the car back up there (when I got more money) to have that fixed, after they looked at it moreso, they told me it was the rack and pinion. My car steers really good, however my steering shacks quite bad, which makes me nervous driving it. Before I had the tires changed, my steering wheel didn't shake that bad, but I had to hold it like I was veering right to keep it straight, which I still do, but it shakes bad.
Answer:
when they ask you what model it is ,give them the year and the manufacturer date of it that will help them tell which one it needs, and they,ll also ask you which model it is like you said the, es or the sports model, that's what helps the parts guy to identify which one it needs, good luck.EDIT you can drive it for a little while like that just be really careful because those can come out at any time without warning, so be extremely cautious when driving it,good luck.

Question : Should I sell my car?
I have a 2006 G35 coupe and don't get me wrong I absolutely love it. I have a problem though. I am going to need to start transporting a racing shell(crew boat) that is about 25' long and very narrow. this wouldn't be a problem except it doesn't have a roof rack, and I would have to get a permanent mount installed on top of the car. they would have to drill holes and attach one onto the roof. I don't know if all of that is worth it, and to be honest I would feel kind of bad ruining the car.On the other hand I don't think I would be able to get a car of equal caliber on a trade in. And I like sports cars. I hate SUVs no offense to anyone who really likes them there is nothing wrong with them they just aren't my thing. I guess Ideally I would like a sports wagon if I decided to trade it in. So what should I do, and if I should sell it what should I trade it in for. Note I do not like american cars.if I trade it in the new car would already have a roof rack so I wouldn't have to drill holes into a car after I get a custom rack created that might cost a lot of extra money.A racing shell is very delicate so it has to be transported with the right equipment
Answer:
Rather than trying to put a very square peg in a very round hole, you should decide which is most important to you and choose accordingly, ensuring whatever you have will at least be able to serve its purpose well in all respects rather than something that doesn't do any of the things you need to do (including preserving its value) well at all.A second option would be to buy a removable roof rack and simply rent a vehicle on the days when you need to transport your shell or buy a "beater" vehicle whose only purpose would be to carry your shell on the days you need it.Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Question : Billy has created a device called a TowRack, which is a rack for carrying sports equipment such as bikes, skis
Billy has created a device called a TowRack, which is a rack for carrying sports equipment such as bikes, skis and kayaks. What makes this item different form other racks is that it attaches to a vehicle's trailer hitch and has a single wheel to help support the weight of the rack and items attached to it. Because it is so much lighter than a regular trailer, it can be used on even the smallest of cars that are not designed to tow regular trailers. Because of the success of this product, competitors introduce similar products. But because of the initial success of Billy's TowRack, all of these similar products are often referred to as TowRacks. Billy has also written a book about using "TowRacks" and safe driving techniques for driving with TowRacks and would like to obtain a copyright for the book. Discuss Billy's legal situation. What actions can he take? Do you think that he will prevail? Why? Please give examples of three other similar cases and the results.
Answer:
Please use your own thought process to do your homework. Earn your grades.
