Just what I needed at just the right price

When we recently bought a new bike for my wife, I was disappointed to find it difficult to hang the bike on the 3-bicycle trailer hitch rack we had for our SUV. The slanted cross bar on her ladies bike just wouldn't allow the bike to be properly set and tightened into place in that rack no matter how I tried. This great little item takes only seconds to attach to the bike and makes use of our existing bike rack a cinch. The only thing you need to know and I learned from reading other reviews, is to attach and detach the end with the inner extension tube first so that you don't risk getting your hand pinched in the spring loaded retraction device. Once you get that little detail down, this item is a terrific solution to what was previously a sticky problem. Highly recommend it and I may buy more of them for other family members' bikes.

Works like a charm

We ordered two of these for our ladies Schwinn beach cruisers. They work perfectly and now we can load our bikes on the rack and not have them hanging at weird angles. The shipping was SUPER fast. Ordered on Sunday, arrived Tuesday - using the FREE super saver shipping option! I like the cable that connects the cross pin to the bar - keeps you from losing the pin. This bar might be a bit too large for a kid's bike, so be sure to check that out first.

Great product, great price

The design is simple and that usually responds to relaibility. It provides a secure fit. We have folding bicycles for which we were prepared to have difficulties because of their conformation. No problem. Very pleased and would highly recommend this product. Very competitively priced.

Great Mount Rack for the money...

I use this rack on a 2000 VW beetle with a spoiler. Figuring out how to use it was easy, the only thing is that on the beetle you can only hook the bottom strap to the bottom lip of the trunk forcing you to mount the rack a bit high. Mounting the rack high puts it at a high angle and the bike closest to the car will touch the back window with a peddle. I just wrap that peddle with a small towel and secure it with a small bungee. Another small gripe is that rack wobbles a little no matter how tight the straps. I am not sure if this is due to the shape of the car or the fact that there are only three straps. Could be both I guess. I would also recommend the cross-bar adapter if you have a women's bike or any other irregular framed bike. It really makes a difference on the stability of the rack. Overall good rack for getting around town with two bikes.

WORKED FOR ME

I WAS SCARED THIS RACK WOULD NOT FIT MY CAR OR THE BIKES I WANTED TO PUT ON IT, BUT IT DID. I HAVE A MOUNTAIN BIKE AND MY SON HAS A STREET BIKE BOTH FIT GREAT. IM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT.

Worked from California to South Carolina

This was pretty easy to figure out and mount on the back of my 2001 Volvo s80

I drove from California to South Carolina and it worked great.

I did only have 1 bike on it though, and I wove the bike lock through the tires and to the rack to help secure the bike more.

Rating :

great rack, bad fitment list

i own a scion tc hatchback. The top straps have to be somewhat long to secure this bike rack CORRECTLY to my vehicle. The straps are TO SHORT, making the rack fit with the holding bars to high in the air, or no leaving anogh strap left over to tie the necessary knot at the adjustment clips. Yet my car is on the fitment list. but overall well built rack, please imoprove your list

4-1/2 stars (out of 5), Bicycling Magazine. A Saris Bones rear rack is one of the few things in life that's both hard working and drop-dead gorgeous. Created by renowned italian designer Fabio Pedrini. The Bones rack gives you more than a stylish alternative to roof racks. It's a stable, secure ride. A system that mounts quickly to almost any vehicle make and model, from sedans to mini-vans-even when there's a rear spoiler involved. And that let's you save your energy for the road or trail.

This rack is so easy to mount onto the car. I have a small hatchback and it's very secure on the back. I would definitely recommend it!

Saris Bones 2 bike rack

I own a 328i BMW and was initially hesitant to mount this rack (or any trunk-mounted rack for that matter) on the car for fear of marring the painted surface of the trunk. I noticed the "feet" of the nylon ribbon securing tapes were made of painted metal. This was obviously a no no. So I placed rubber electrician's tape on each foot and appeared to have solved that problem. The rack seems sturdy enough and has no inherent design problems although it was tricky setting it up initially to fit my particular application. Once I marked the rack with the supplied tape stickers and my own magic marker mark points on the shafts, I now have a rack which I can put up and take down with the "memory" of each leg location already in place. Ir holds both my and my girlfriend's bike securely. I have no reservations recommending this rack once you figure out how to finagle the legs to your own app and mark the shafts to remember where they go for future use. I like the fact that it it won't rust, is priced competitively, and basically looks cool. Get the rubber tape for the legs, a large cable lock, and you are on your way.

Gets the job done

Purchased this rack after much research, been using it for a year so far to get my bikes around. The screws that hold the arms in place once adjusted are made of a really cheap soft plastic and stripped out within the first month. The arms are also too thick to fit inside of the frame of my GT Force, I had to buy a seperate bar that connects stem to seatpost to make it fit on this. So check you full suspension to see if it will have room for these support bars before buying. Upgraded to a Thule metal rack recently.

Rating :

Works great!

PROS:
Takes 5 minutes to install or remove
Fine in all weather
Looks cool
Sturdy

CONS:
Front tire is permitted limited movement (using a $2 bungee cord to secure it works well)
No way to secure the bike or carrier with a lock for security

Rating :

Probably the best trunk-mount unit available

I've used plenty of different bike carriers, including a few other trunk-/back-mounted units. This one is notably different in design and overall quality from any other I've seen. It mounts very easily and securely (to a Scion model xA, in this case), and is just dead-solid on the car with two heavy bikes on-board. I just made a trip of over 1,200 miles (Portland to San Francisco and back), in windy conditions, with this rack, and it performed perfectly. I never had to stop to tighten or re-adjust the rack at all. One nice touch is that (at least in my case) the rear gate of the vehicle can be accessed with the rack attached (although not with the bikes on, obviously). There are only three items of caution I'd note: 1) If you're transporting nice bikes and care to protect their finish, you'll want to use foam pipe insulation sections to protect the top and seat tubes. 2) The fit-up is tight for two bicycles--it may be tough or impossible to fit two bikes with wide handlebars and/or racks. 3) Like any trunk-mount unit, there is no accommodation (that I can tell) for security, so do not plan on leaving the car out of sight, with the bikes on, for any length of time. I used a cable to lock the bikes to the rack, and this worked well-enough as a simple deterrent to leave the vehicle unattended for rest-stops and such, but wouldn't stop a determined thief, obviously.

Thule Lock Cylinders Thule Lock Cylinders

Thule Lock Cylinders are arguably the most important part of your rack, that is, the part that keeps all your gear safe and secure on the rack. Thule Lock Cylinders are designed in one size to fit many Thule rack parts, so if a situation necessitates new locks, you can buy one package of Lock Cylinders and lock your entire rack with a single key.

just fine

worked perfectly on my thule criterium roof rack. took 5 minutes to install two of them, one that locks the bike rack down to the roof rack and one that locks the arm that holds the bike in place. They seem quite easy to pick, but at least they give me some piece of mind when i have to leave my car unattended.

Overpackers Rejoice!

Have owned a Thule roof rack for years and always attached it to our Jeep's existing roof rack. However, we sold the jeep last summer and were disappointed to learn that our new car's roof rack did not come with the cross bars. We purchased the Thule cross bars, foot pack, and locks and loaded up our car for the Jersey shore. Worked like a charm. Installation was easy; the biggest issue was moving the feet in tandom to get everything even (the existing bars were curved to contour the car). In a nutshell: my husband didn't work too long at the installation and any complaining was minimal (if any) so, for us, that is a success story! Upon our return from vacation, I wondered if the locks were really necessary given how weighted down the Thule was with luggage; however, better safe than sorry and it was nice not having to worry about one more thing that could go wrong! Worth the money.

It works!

When everything came, I read the instructions, called my sister, went to her home. We took all the parts out of the boxes, read the instructions, followed them and I have a Hullivator on my car. We tried her kayak, which is the same as mine, and it worked.
I have taken the top off until I'm going to put the boat on.
It is a great "shoulder saver".

These locks easly fit into your Thule rack. Installation takes seconds. You have to love Thule quality.

work great and stand up well to wear

I have six of these on my rack system and they have stood up well to many seasons of year-round wear. Don't lose the blank "change" key that comes with them or you will have difficulty removing the cylinder if you change equipment. (You can always push in the last tumbler with a screwdriver to remove if you already have access to the inside of the lock.)

These allow you to easily lock your stuff to your rack and your rack to your car.

Easy Loader!!!

This is not the best rack on the market, but is well worth the price. I have used it many times for long and short trips, and it attaches in minutes, easily and solidly.

Great rack

I bought this bike for my 2 mountain bikes and it has exceeded my expectations. It is sturdy and mounting the bikes takes seconds. I have owned strap down racks in the past, and I got tired of strapping down the bikes and either removing the tires or bungee cording them prevent spinning while driving. The Swagman prevents all of that. I also like how it folds down to allow my Rav 4 door to open. It shipped quickly with no issues.

Rating :

Great value!!

I bought this bike rack for my fiance for Christmas and had to research and make a decision without his input. I was nervous I would choose the wrong thing but he seems to really love this one. At first he was a little wary of the fact that the bike's wheels rest on the bottom of the rack, but then after the first use he realized it was helpful because it keeps them from spinning while driving. It folds up to be very small and fits easily in a closet when not in use. He is very happy with this rack!

Great Bike Rack

Very Safe rack, love the fact that there are places for locks as our bikes cost nearly $2,000 we wouldnt want to get them stolen ,this is also very easy to use

Question : Unfortunite should people be when car problems still presist...?
Bought a 2003 Mazda6 sports Sedan New, has a low mileage of 68,000 miles, for work 22 miles both ways. With an extended warranty, which expires 2010 June. Several Components which the belt goes around has been changed, for the exception A.C. and Water Pump. (Rack and Pinion, idle pulley, steering pump, sensor, Alternator (twice)... (One) wheel bearing changed on the passenger side..Why if under warranty change one and not the other..?My accelerating the car slowly forward has this whining or whistle noise... After accelerating in gear to 40 m.p.h. and over, its gets louder. The Ford Dealership sells Mazda, in Alexandria, Louisiana .After Several times over 2 or 3 months, some (part changers) guess work supposed to be certified mechanics has not fixed the problem. I had my rotors and brake pads replace also! I don't think the car is a lemon, just need a certified mechanic in Mazda to fix this thing once and for all!I had also the transmission oil changed and a grease job under . My motor oil and filter always changed on due mileage. Sent an email, waiting for owner on response..Is there any of you have any knowledge what the problem be so I can discuss something of this sort to him.. My Going out of town maybe a risk breaking down, leaving me in a unknown familiar place.. I am a woman in my 60's, which today's price would put anyone on a budget financially broke. I would appreciate someone enlighten me with some facts. Learning what goes on!

Answer:
Your car has serious problems going through two alternators so quick! My 1993 Civic lasted 16 years when I traded it in with the same alternator that came from the factory! The car sounds like a problem child, that the last owner dumped it on you. It sounds like the car will need many more repairs later. It sounds better to trade the car in before it becomes an endless money pit.

Question : can a luggage rack, car top carrier thing fit?
on a dodge neon sport. no luggage bar things. how would it fit if there no bars?

Answer:
Check with your Dealer. In many models the design of the 'roof carrier' or 'luggage rack' is made in such a way to fit that size by clamps which get the grip on to the roof with adjustable screws.

Question : Billy has created a device called a TowRack, which is a rack for carrying sports equipment such as bikes, skis
Billy has created a device called a TowRack, which is a rack for carrying sports equipment such as bikes, skis and kayaks. What makes this item different form other racks is that it attaches to a vehicle's trailer hitch and has a single wheel to help support the weight of the rack and items attached to it. Because it is so much lighter than a regular trailer, it can be used on even the smallest of cars that are not designed to tow regular trailers. Because of the success of this product, competitors introduce similar products. But because of the initial success of Billy's TowRack, all of these similar products are often referred to as TowRacks. Billy has also written a book about using "TowRacks" and safe driving techniques for driving with TowRacks and would like to obtain a copyright for the book. Discuss Billy's legal situation. What actions can he take? Do you think that he will prevail? Why? Please give examples of three other similar cases and the results.

Question : Which rack and pinion do I need for a 1997 Dodge Intrepid Sports; 3.5L V6?
I need to figure out what type of rack and pinion is needed for my car. There are three different types, one is eliminated because it's for the 3.3L V6, however that still leaves two different types. I have the Sports version V6, not the ES. None of the mechanics around here are open during the weekends, at least not any of them that either good or are willing to work on it. Please, please help me if you can!!! :)Hmmm... I have called the parts places and told them the year, make, model and they still didn't know because there were two types of rack and pinions listed (so they said). I took it to a mechanic and I was going to get new tires and an alignment. I was told I couldn't get the alignment because of the 'inner tie rod end bushing.' Well, I took the car back up there (when I got more money) to have that fixed, after they looked at it moreso, they told me it was the rack and pinion. My car steers really good, however my steering shacks quite bad, which makes me nervous driving it. Before I had the tires changed, my steering wheel didn't shake that bad, but I had to hold it like I was veering right to keep it straight, which I still do, but it shakes bad.

Answer:
when they ask you what model it is ,give them the year and the manufacturer date of it that will help them tell which one it needs, and they,ll also ask you which model it is like you said the, es or the sports model, that's what helps the parts guy to identify which one it needs, good luck.EDIT you can drive it for a little while like that just be really careful because those can come out at any time without warning, so be extremely cautious when driving it,good luck.

Question : I'm looking for a good on-line Thule rack dealer anyone have a preference?
I recently got a new SUV and I had an old Thule Ski rack on my car it attached to the Thule square bars I had but now I have a factory rack. What do I need to get to attach this to my new car? There aren't many sporting good stores where I live and I doubt if they would even have what I need. Anyone know a good online source?

Answer:
I'd start at Thules own website and talk to them to figure out what you need then just type the parts into a search engine. Ebay can actually be a good source for stuff like that. So is REI.

Question : Surf Rack on a 350z??????
i have a nissan 350z (a 2 door sports car in case u live under a rock) that i bought a soft surf rack for.my question is how reliable is it to put on a small car like this.I know it fits as i put it on before but im scared to drive with it for 2 reasons.Losing the board and possibly hurting someoneand I dont wanna scratch or dent my car (AT ALL)anyone have expierence with a rack on a 2 door car?how do i reply to replies? haha

Answer:
its going to be hard keeping the roof of your car from not getting ANY scratches or dents. since soft racks have those buckles on them...you could go relatively slow most soft racks suggest not exceeding 55mph with them if all else fails you can try putting your board from inside from the back of the trunk through that little opening (depending on how small your board is of course)

Question : Can you recommend a car top carrier?
We have a Mitsubishi Montero Sport that has a factory installed luggage rack with side bars only. e don't want to spend a lot because it may only be used a couple times, and we would prefer a soft carrier for storage purposes. Something waterproof is necessary since this time of year would get get rain or snow. Can you recommend a good brand/model? Thanks!

Answer:
Get a soft top one like this............http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Car-Top-Carrier-WW-15-bk/dp/B00190K3JI

Question : I have 26k in the bank & am a 25 year old female. I just sold my 96 jeep cherokee sport and need a new car.?
I only make 100 dollars a week if I am lucky by doing minor house cleaning jobs. A jeep or an suv is the only car I feel comfortable driving in. Gas and insurance prices are not an issue. I have been presented with a gift of 7,500 towards a car if I so choose to accept. Do I go out and buy a nice car and have to close my bank account or is that pretty foolish? If so is it equally foolish to buy another older jeep with most likely a bunch of miles racked up on it? What to do? Finally I have also been given the option of a late 90's tbird from the parents. It is a pretty car just so low to the ground I feel like I am sitting on the pavement. btw, the 7,500 is from them as well...I have no clue what I did to deserve such nice folks. One more thing...I have no bills as I live with the bf who supports me and could always move home to the same deal.Oh fellas no need to be hateful! Furthermore I greatly appreciate any serious responces!I sold it b/c its time had come. I was the jeep I received as a gift for my 16th Birthday and now at age 25 I need a change!gearnofear, gerald, and clarkbug i greatly appreciate your imput.Rod, thank you for in the input, not imput as i accidentally typed before. Anyways, I really appreciate the serious replies. I understand that 26k is chump change in the big scheme of things. Trust me I feel like a miser. At my age I should have a BA/BS as opposed to my AA in which people laugh at. Also I should have way more saved in the bank and a career that isn't cleaning houses for 100 bucks a week! I get all this, trust me on that I know I am nowhere near where I should be in life and thank God for the people that are looking after me! What I am trying to do is make a wise choice based on my current situation. Sounds like some of you think used would be okay, others say take the tbird (which is actually my sisters gift car when she turned 16...obviously she has a new car now since she did in fact graduate on time, start a career, buy and house and an suv and so on). As far as distance traveled goes, my house cleaning job is about 6 miles away. Thanks guys!

Answer:
Look out for yourself long term. Avoid debt. You don't have much income. While your savings seems like a large chuck of change, it isn't that much when it comes to getting a brand-spakin' never-been-titled, new-car -smellin' car. You are in a lucky position to not have gas or insurance be an issue, but you shouldn't consider that to be your long term reality. You situation could always change where you don't have that luxury. You really need to make more money if you ever care to be independent and at your age you should be expected to be. Any car now will lose value very quickly, and a brand new car will lose lots of value. Although you can certainly spend money on one, you really can't afford a brand new car. If you really wanted to spend your money, property would be a better investment since it won't lose value. I would recommend getting an affordable used car and not use up your savings. If you don't like your gift car (which is perfectly fine, as far as I'm concerned) try to sell that T-bird and use the money to buy a car you would like. You may want to run the idea by your folks first, because there's a chance that may feel slighted with that plan.Others seem to do a good job of looking out for you. By making wise financial decisions, you'll do a good job of looking out for yourself.

Question : Bycicle rack for a regular sports car?
I own a sports car and i was wondering if a bike rack can fit on my sports car. I see people with bycicle racks but only on their big SUV's or Jeep. I dont want to spend money buying another car just for a bike rack but i do want to take my bike to the beach or mountains so i can have some fun with it. Can a bike rack fit on a compact car? I have a 2000 toyota celica

Answer:
You can put one of those strap-retained bike racks on the back of your trunk.. That would be the simplest way to go....Or, you can buy a trailer hitch (believe it or not those actually exist for Toyota Celicas, like this one: http://performance.drivewire.com/getparts/index.aspx?pref=Trailer%20Hitch|TOYOTA|CELICA|2000||||||To wing%20Accessories ). Get the hitch installed on your car, then put a hitch-mounted bike rack like a Yakima or Thule on it. A class-1 hitch should be good enough to carry 1 bike. I don't know if it is strong enough for 2 or more though (I probably wouldn't chance it).I don't know if they make roof racks that will fit the Celica, but if they did it probably needs some sort of klunky adapter system to hook onto seams or door ledges in the carbody, and a lot more expensive than the other systems.Hope this helps a little.
