Customer Review :

Simple to use pretty easy to install

It took a little time trying to get the lock into the slot correctly but once I did, it works like a champ. I like that they give you 3 keys and key sign-up form if you ever lose them. Good product. Would recommend.

Rating :

Expensive

These locks are expensive for what they are, but, if they prevent my rack from being stolen just once, they have paid for themselves.

The product is as advertised.

Rating :

Simple secure locks

The Yakima SKS (Single Key System) lock system is extremely simple to install, require no tools at all. In fact, with a fully assembled rack system, you can install these locks in mere seconds.

The locks themselves have a sturdy feel to them, and appear to be solid enough that simple prying doesn't budge the Q-Tower or Q-Clip whatsoever. Rest assured that if anyone tries to make off with your roof racks while these are installed, they are going to attract quite a bit of attention.

Rating :

Very useful for Yakima Roof Rack owners

These core sets are incredibly useful for Yakima Roof Rack owners. They allow you to use one key for all your components. They are always easy to install and uninstall in the various Yakima components. I have one key that is the same for my four Yakima Q towers, my cargo box, snowboard rack, and bike rack.

I would say buy atleast an 8 pack if you buy a Yakima towers rack. You need 4 right off the bat for the rack towers, and then you want several to be able to lock up snowboards or skis, bikes, and cargo box etc.

Definitely recommend this to anyone buying a Yakima rack.

3 out 4 ain't bad?

Well, 3 of the cores I got worked as intended, and for that I am thankful. The 4th one did not fit properly and wouldn't lock up. I ended up just capping off the 4th one, but I'm still glad I bought these, b/c as long as 3 of them are good, it would be very difficult for someone to steal my crossbars. (Still would've been nice to get 4 good ones, though. *sigh*)

Customer Review :

It works!

When everything came, I read the instructions, called my sister, went to her home. We took all the parts out of the boxes, read the instructions, followed them and I have a Hullivator on my car. We tried her kayak, which is the same as mine, and it worked.
I have taken the top off until I'm going to put the boat on.
It is a great "shoulder saver".

Rating :

just fine

worked perfectly on my thule criterium roof rack. took 5 minutes to install two of them, one that locks the bike rack down to the roof rack and one that locks the arm that holds the bike in place. They seem quite easy to pick, but at least they give me some piece of mind when i have to leave my car unattended.

Rating :

Dont bother buying for the 480 foot pack.

All they lock on the 480 Footpack is a flimsy cover that can easily be broken off. Not storing the tightening levers in the footpacks themselves is a better way to keep vandals/thieves away.

Rating :

I wish I ordered the 6 pack!!!

Easy installation! My only regret is I wish I ordered the 6 pack lockset so I could have both the footpack and the cargo box all keyed alike.

Rating :

work great and stand up well to wear

I have six of these on my rack system and they have stood up well to many seasons of year-round wear. Don't lose the blank "change" key that comes with them or you will have difficulty removing the cylinder if you change equipment. (You can always push in the last tumbler with a screwdriver to remove if you already have access to the inside of the lock.)

These allow you to easily lock your stuff to your rack and your rack to your car.

Eight Foot, 10mm braided stainless steel cable

Customer Review :

saris does it again

What else do you need for bike security on the rack? It is well built and has a two year warranty.

Rating :

Works well

Good, solid, attractive bike lock. I like it. Eight feet of cable allows me to secure three bikes together AND to the car (Honda Accord). If it had an extra couple feet of cable, I could also secure the wheels on all three bikes (not a problem if you're only transporting one bike... maybe even two). I like the rubber keyhole cover. The key was a bit stiff turning initially, but a squirt of WD-40 in the keyhole helped smooth that out.

Rating :

Good buy

works as advertised; the only problem I see is that it is a little hard to pull out the lock. other than that it works perfectly

Rating :

Good quality, easy enough to use

Seems to do the trick securing my bikes to my rack. It's a bit of a pain to thread under my bumper to secure it, but that's probably just my car's fault. A good investment for bike security.

Customer Review :

Simple, easy to use, great for keeping my bike racks secure

These accessory housings (along with the SKS lock cores which I already owned) are exactly what I needed to keep my yakima bike racks secure to my vehicle. They were packaged nicely and shipped quickly. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Rating :

An indispensible piece of equipment

The Yakima SKS accessory lock housing does one thing and does it very well......it secures your accessories to your rack so that people cannot walk off with them. This is a very inexpensive way to secure your expensive rack hardware.

If ever there was a "must have", this is it. The locks themselves are necessary for peace of mind, and work easily. Although in my opinion I think these should be included by Yakima when you buy an expensive bike or kayak rack, but that is another issue altogether.

Question : Building a home shotgun locking rack?
I need to mount and lock a Mossberg 500 12 gauge shotgun in my house. It's more about family safety (have kids) than infallible theft protection ... if someone had plenty of time in the house, I realize anything lagged into the wall studs could by pryed off. But all the locking mount systems for home seem to involve a key. I want a combination (or fingerprint/biometric, which I fear would be too expensive). How about one of the electric locks from a police cruiser? There are many used ones on eBay, without the override key (I guess that's a police proprietary handcuff-style key). They open when energized with 12V current. I was thinking, perhaps one of those collar-style locks mounted on the wall to hold the stock butt to the floor (with floor plate if needed), wired to a cipher keypad that can be programmed for a memorized, tactile combo entry that could accomplished done in the dark. Getting really inventive, I might be able to make that happen with an existing home security system keypad that has unused channels, or could be converted to a "dummy" just for the shotgun (my preferred mounting spot is right below said panel). Am I on to something, or is there something better already available, that does not cost more than my pawn shop gun?

Answer:
One neat set up a friend has is an inner wall safe. He had a friend wield together some plate steel that fit between the studs, a mirror on hinges covered the safe. It had two combination locks and was anchored to the studs and bottom plate it was very secure for a couple guns. His home was broken into but they never found the safe. Even if they had found it and pried it from the studs and floor moving it with the 400 lbs of wheel weights he had on the bottom would have been a chore. I saw a similar safe that was in the floor and another one in the attic covered with insulation.

Question : Need help diagnosing a problem with rack and pinion steering?
2000 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel DriveI removed and replaced the power steering pump because it started making a lot more noise than usual and there was a vibration in the steering. I bled the system like my Haynes manual suggested: wheels off ground, engine on, turn the steering back and forth many times but not to the lock. My boy drove it for 5 days with it making too much noise sometimes worse than others. Today I changed the rack and pinion. I bled the system with the engine off turning it back and forth to each lock about 20 times and then with the engine on like last week. The pump is making way too much noise and the steering studders similar to an older GM with a loose belt. Sometimes the fluid looks fine and sometimes it has a lot of air in it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:
It certainly sounds to me like it still needs to be bled. If the fluid looks foamy, there's still air in there. I'd bleed with the engine running. You don't need to go lock-to-lock, but as close as you can to it. Locking a bit doesn't really do any harm, just don't hold it on lock.

Question : Buying a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited... QUESTIONS!!!???!!!?
Here is the ad for the car as I would be buying it from a DEALERSHIP:2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Lifted 4X4! For $9495Automatic 4X4 LiftedPower windows Power door locks Power seats Premium sounds Moon roof Leather Cruise control Tilt wheel Roof rack Privacy glass Premium wheels Lifted suspension DVD system 130,000 milesMY QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS AREIs 130,000 miles too much for this car???Is the price fair? (I bluebooked it and it turned out only to be for $7000)Please tell me any comments or concerns or your experience if you have a jeep!It would be greatly appreciated...THANKS SO MUCH! :)

Answer:
To answer your first question, the average amount of mileage should not exceed 15,000 miles per year. So if the car was made in 2000-2001 than the mileage should not be more than 150,000 miles in which case you should be okay. As far as pricing, it may be bluebooked for 7,000 but you are actually paying the extra money for the features that were added to the car. All in all, it boils down to the way in which the car was cared for, and from the features added, it seems as though the owner took pride in the vehicle; so basically it is all up for you to decide if it is worth it.

Question : will a bike tray fit my roof rack?????
i have a 1999 toyota 4runner sr5. it came with a factory roof rack, just simple sliders i think and a bar that runs across it. one in front and back. i was wondering if i bought a bike tray that i found online, would it fit my stock rack? do those tray require a proper system already mounted on to it? and when i say tray i mean the one where u can put your bike on, strap down the tires and lock the bike in. i didnt want to buy the tray then bring it home and find out i need a rack system to put the tray on

Answer:
Check the website for the brand trays you are looking at. Some trays do need the entire system as that is how they are made. There are a few out there that are made to attach to a factory rack.
