EXCELLENT IN EVERY WAY!
MY DOCTOR RECOMMENDED A RECUMBENT BIKE AS A GOOD FORM OF EXERCISE FOR A SENIOR WITH SOME JOINT PROBLEMS.
MY CHOICE, AFTER SOME RESEARCH, WAS THE SCHWINN 230. IT HAS MORE THAN MET MY EXPECTATIONS. GOOD CHOICE OF PROGRAMS, QUIET, AND OFFERS AN EXCELLENT WORKOUT.
THE ASSEMBLY WAS IMPRESSIVE, WITH ALL PARTS LABELED AND CLEARLY WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS. ABOUT AN HOUR TO PUT TOGETHER.
ALL THIS AND RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE AS WELL. EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE SCHWINN 230 AS WELL AS WITH AMAZON.COM.

Lov'n it
Great workout. Love the programs; wonderful low impack workout. Would highly recommend. We did have problems putting the bike together the first time. The right paddle wouldn't attach correctly. My husband called the Amazon Customer Service Center and explained the problem. They were WONDERFUL, and told us they would send us a replacment bike. They had UPS pick up the first bike the next day and I had my replacment bike by the next week. We had no problems with the set up of the second bike.

i love my bike!
i had knee surgery and was told i needed to ride a stationary bike daily to "wake up" my muscles. this is the ideal bike b/c there was nothing in the middle in front of the seat to have to step over. you just walk up to the seat and sit. i also have lower back issues and the lumbar support is excellent! it took me longer than average to put this bike together but im thinking it was due to the fact it was so hard for me to bend over and squat (pretty much impossible when your knee isnt bending much after surgery). i saw reviews of a tattered box and broken plastic parts inside. my box looked pretty beaten up but there was a lot of stryofoam and everything was well protected. all the tools and pieces r there and everything is outlined for you in the manual. if you are looking for a recumbent bike, this one is a great deal and quality. i definitely recommend it! =)

A good product
A solid bike. I bought it for my wife to use, as she has a spinal injury and cannot ride an upright. She's been using it almost every day. It is well built, easy to assemble, a smooth ride.

Awesome recumbent exercise bike.
As a new owner, I love everything about it except for the information pad, it could be better.

No excuse not to exercise!
Purchased this bike for my husband's birthday about a month ago as an alternative to riding outside when the weather is bad. It was easy to assemble in about an hour. The control panel is well lit and easy to use and read. The seat is a little wider than most bike seats so we may change that in the future. The seat is adjustable, however, making the bike comfortable for tall and short alike. It is extremely quiet, making it enjoyable to watch TV or listen to music. For those looking to save money, the price is substantially less than a treadmill. For those short on space, it also takes up less room than a treadmill. We were pleased with this product and would recommend it to friends.

i'm pleased after 4 months of use everyday.
i've had my schwinn 140 now for at least 4 months and i'm very pleased. when it came the left front plastic shoe on the front stabilizer bar was broken during shipping but i put it on the bike regardless and called schwinn to have another one mailed to my home. took about an hour to assemble and i plugged it in to a wall outlet picked my resistance setting and i unplugged it and haven't plugged it back in since.[ i don't like to pay for electricity unless necessary.] i ride my exercise bike everyday and i've never had a problem. i'm 5ft. 10 in. 212 lbs. and it is really sturdy and durable. so to close this out i think this was another great buy from amazon for a real good price.

Well built, quiet, and very functional
I received my Schwinn 140 from Amazon on May 25, 2010. The box was in perfect condition, all parts and tools needed for assembly were in the box. I'm 77 years old and was able to assemble the machine in a little over 30 minutes using the assembly instructions provided in the box. I use the machine for continuing therapy on my two prosthetic knees to keep them moving freely. The bike is fully adjustable and over a couple of days I had it perfectly comfortable for my daily exercise. The display is wonderful and very easy to read. I have now ridden the bike over 200 miles. I have found it to be better for my needs than the machines at my club because it is more adjustable in seat and bar position and provides the same level of exercise. The personal program capability is a real plus!

Easy to assemble, Works well.
I read some of the lower rated reviews and was hesitant to get this shipped online, but didn't find a good alternative. The package was fine, and arrived quickly and it was fairly straight forward to setup (it does take a good hour or so). The bike works well and I have been using it continuously for about 30 minutes a day for the last three weeks without any issues.

Display/Console do not work
Overall basic function works ok. But, it is advertised as having features with different preset program workouts and the ability to set up users to track workouts over time. I spent two hours trying to get those features to work and finally gave up. It does not remember the user information I enter and it does not give me any options for preset workouts. So, basically, I paid extra for features that do not work--I could have purchased a less expensive model to get a bike with a clock and the ability to change resistance levels. If you want equipment that offers extra features, this is not the choice for you.

My Wife Uses it Daily and Loves It!
We bought the bike in Feb '09 after my wife's knee surgery to help strengthen her legs. Assembly was easy with no glitches. She has used it daily with no problems and no complaints. For the price, I don't think we could have done better than the Schwinn Active 20.

Great bike!
For me, this is almost the perfect exercise bike. It offers several levels of resistance, is very comfortable, and easy to use. Perhaps the best feature in my mind is that the seat is extremely easy to change positions in. There is a lever on the right side that you flip up and then you can adjust the seat to wherever you want it. This is a welcome feature since I share the bike with my girlfriend, who is a different height than me. The seat is nicely cushioned and the set programs offer a variety of different workouts. The bike doesn't take up much space either. My only complaints about it is that the screen is an odd shape, so many of the book holders you can get at sporting goods or fitness stores won't fit. I've remedied this by placing a music stand next to the bike and I read off of that instead. Also, there is sometimes a point where one resistance level seems to light and the next resistance level is too heavy. It would be nice if these gaps were filled in with more levels. I've been extremely happy with my purchase though and this seems to be one of the few pieces of exercise equipment that I use everyday.

a lot of value for a modest cost
Amazon's current average rating of this bike is 4.5 stars. That is exactly what I think it deserves...although I have rounded my rating up (by 0.5) to five stars to fit Amazon's questionnaire format.
I am 66 years old 5'11" and 219 lbs, while my wife (in her 50s) is 4'9" and 103 lbs. I was looking for a recumbent bike to cross-train during the days that I take a break from running. My wife needed something aerobic to supplement her daily yoga routine. Despite the differences in our ages, sizes, and exercise needs, this sturdy piece of equipment satisfies both of us almost perfectly. If it were to hold up over time, I can imagine us both using it well into old age.
On the positive side it is simply and solidly constructed, and its components easily fit together out-of-the-box; It took me about 30 minutes to assemble it (using the included tools). Although my wife is small, she has no difficulty moving it (i.e. dragging it) to different locations. The large lever used to position the seat on its frame is very easy for both of us to use. While being peddled it is silent, even at its highest level of exertion, making it a pleasure to burn calories while reading, listening to music, or watching TV. So far it has provided both of us with healthy workouts and its sensors allow us to continuously measure our heart beats per minute while peddling.
On the negative side the buttons on its control consul are non-intuitive, and its accompanying manual is not clearly written. (However, After some minor fiddling we got it to do what we wanted.) Further, its LCD screen is impossible to read under under dim light. Ergo my 0.5 deduction.
In the balance though, this item delivers a lot of value for its relatively modest cost.

Don't pay extra for shipping
So glad I didn't pay extra for shipping.Ordered on a Monday night, recieved it on the following Thursday morning, with free shipping.(Oklahoma)The monitor is a little hard to figure out but after a few minutes playing with the settings I got it set for me.My 6 year old son and I put it together in a solid hour.Directions are pretty easy to follow and all the parts were there.Used it for about an hour and it's super quiet and I never smelled anything unusual.Feels very solid and sturdy and I weigh 300 +.No complaints other than it is very heavy in the box.I had to roll it into the house.Would definitely recommend it at this price.Feels like one you would see at a gym.

good bike with a few details
I bought this bike to exercise a bit while playing videogames or watching TV. Similar cheaper options had important details for me, like not being able to move the seat, or programs too simple to exercise. And the recumbent seat was a "must" especially for my husband. The only detail I've found is that the screen has no light so during the night is kind of uncomfortable, but other than that is a very good bike that serves its purpose and does not use a lot of space in my living room, another "must" since I live in an apartment. Definitely recommended.

Returned the item
This was not stable even on carpet. The tension was also not very adjustable. Seemed cheaply made. The floor grips did not stay in one place. They were always twisting and turning.

Nice workout; easy on the knees
I purchased my Instride Cycle XL to exercise after tearing the meniscus in my knee. Physical therapy got me to the point where I could finally cycle, but not with a normal bike, which would put strain on the knee. This fun little job does the trick. Yes, it has slipped when just on the wood floor, but once I position it against my desk, centered against the leg of one kneehole, it doesn't move at all. The timer thing is totally useless; it would have been much better if it had "mileage" or cardio, but for the money, you can't ask for much more. I cycle while at my computer, watching tv or reading, and it definitely works the legs and a bit of the upper body if you position yourself correctly on the chair. I use weights to exercise my arms and upper body, but you can put it on a table and use the pedals to exercise your arms. I would highly recommend it!

Limited Value for Me
This item is only good for exercise motion. Gets too hot if you apply pressure to the rotation. Probably not adequate for most people who want to strengthen leg or knee.

In Stride Cycle
I bought this product to replace another, less expensive similar product by another manufacturer. The other cycle snapped in half after 2 months of moderate use. This one is far sturdier. The pedals are attached directly to the product, not sautered on, like the other one. I am very pleased with this one, and the price was good.

In stride cycle
I purchased this piece of equipment for my father who suffers with Parkinson's disease. The doctor told him he needed to do cycling because it would be good for his brain. I didn't think that he would be able to get on and off a regular excercise bike so I was excited to find this. It perfectly fit the bill. He can sit in a sturdy chair and pedal away and even put it on the table and use it for his arms. It is very sturdy. And the price was right!

TERRIBLE SERVICE
Got the unit and started putting it together. The instruction manual had several pages upside down. A couple of the steps weren't even in the manual. Finally figured it out. Everything was fine at that point. When I went to ride it, there is a very annoying noise as you speed up the revolutions with your feet. The noise is emanating from under the seat area where you can slide the distance from the seat to the front wheel back and forth. Also, when I went to register the unit, the serial number is non-existent. Either they forgot to stamp it (if that is how they do it) or the tag didn't get put on. I wrote several e-mails about both these issues to Schwinn's service, but they have not answered. The bike itself runs well other than that noise in the back. I hope I don't have a major problem with the unit down the road as it is quite obvious they do NOT care about follow-up service. That is an easy way to lose future customers, as I WOULD have been one for other exercise gear.....NOT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Very satisfied, worth it!
Was skeptical about ordering online, but went ahead and purchased after confirming with Amazon that there was a 30 day guarantee (original packaging) since bike sold & shipped by Amazon. Can't beat the free shipping by Amazon and it arrived within several days of my ordering. The bike is SOLID - frame is very well built and was pleasantly surprised that the FOOT PEDALS ARE WEIGHTED. This is a plus that I didn't see any notation of. I agree with other reviews that the console is OK, but it has not limited me in the least and has enough options to keep you challenged. I'm just starting to use the programs after a couple of weeks of getting used to the ride, but so far I couldn't be happier with the stability, comfort and smooth ride!

The WORST computer console ever
After spending the past 20 minutes on this bike, trying to figure out how to get to my programmable/saved workouts, I have had it. I've had the bike for 4 weeks, and if you just want to do quick start and ride the thing, it's fine. But if you want to actually USE the programmable workouts, forget it. By trial and error, I have managed to find my way to the programmable workouts 4 times, despite riding this thing 5 times a week for 4 weeks. It is the WORST piece of equipment I have ever used. If I just wanted a manual bike, I would not have paid $400+ and wasted my time and effort. The booklet that comes with this is crap, and has better use as a fire-starter than an actual manual.
If I could afford it, I would throw this thing in the garbage and buy something that is useful and worth the money. There is no chance that I'll buy a Schwinn product ever again, and I'm saving my pennies until I can buy something that actually does what it is supposed to.
Do NOT buy this piece of crap. Spend your money wisely. You can get a manual bike, or a spinning bike, or something else, for FAR less money. Get a treadmill and walk on it. You won't be as frustrated as you will be with this garbage.
The 20 minutes I spent today desparately trying to figure this out, and the time (5-10 minutes with each workout) that I wasted each other time trying to figure it out, would have been better spent on actually working out. I should have given up, but I thought I should be able to figure this out. I'm a college graduate; I'm not an idiot. It's possible I have a faulty machine, but: 1) if you read the other reviews, you'll see that even the 5 star reviews mention the inferior programming feature 2) How the heck am I going to take apart and pack up this gargantuan piece of crap and ship it back? I'm certain they won't take it back, and I'll be wasting my time.
So, if I can influence you at all, don't buy this. Maybe the company will figure it out and actually either give decent instructions or fix the thing so that it actually works.
I am completely disgusted with this.

Very Pleased!
I just received this item yesterday. They said it would be here on the 28th and it was. Assembly was easy. I have only been on it for one mile so far but I am very pleased with the product. It's comfy, seems well made, it is extremely quiet. So far so good. This was the only trustworthy place that i could find on the internet that offered me no tax, no shipping charges so it saved me a bundle. I am pleased with the service and also the product.

Great Workout
I bought this bike as a replacement for a regular recumbent bike that I had nearly three years. We tried out a lot of different models and brands and finally found this one at one of the sport stores. Unfortunately at the time, they were out of stock. We found this at Amazon - took advantage of their free shipping - and viola we had a new bike. The bike if very comfortable - has many different workouts and well really give you a great workout. Well worth the money - still a lot cheaper and convenient than paying for a gym membership.

Question : Exercise bikes - Can you put them upstairs or will they vibrate below and make too much noise?
I'm getting an exercise bike and will hopefully put it upstairs, but I was wondering will it vibrate against the floor and make noise from the room downstairs directly below because I don't know if i'll be able to put it upstairs then?
Answer:

Question : How good are Exercise Bikes at fat burning?
I know you burn as many calories as on a treadmill. That treadmills are great for fat burning. Are exercise bikes great for fat burning? (They do burn fat obviously, but alot? same calories so..)So exercise bikes dont burn your abdomen/belly fat?? thats what im using it for.
Answer:
Hey An exercise bike will burn calories, increase circulation and endurance and generally improve your health. However, using an exercise bike will not build muscle. Cardiovascular exercise can help the heart and the overall health of a person, but its effect on weight loss is actually limited for many people. If you are exercising without dieting, you probably will not notice a significant change. Cardiovascular exercise, such as an exercise bike can provide, is actually far more effective in weight management than weight loss. An exercise bike, even at full resistance, is not likely to shape your abdominal areas, so if you are looking to lose weight and raise your metabolic rate, then try resistance training exercises, such as weights, machines or even push ups.

Question : What muscles to exercise bikes work? Calf muscle?
I have an exercise bike at home. I have started a programe to build my leg muscles. I can follow or use most of the exercises for all parts of the leg except the calf muscles - because I don't have access to gym equipment like leg presses etc...Do exercise bikes build up calf muscle?
Answer:
quads, calf, and hams

Question : Is weight capacity important for exercise bikes?
Concerning exercise bikes, is obeying the weight capacity important? I'm an ogre, you see, and I understand that the weight capacity is important for treadmills as the parts in it could wear out. But bikes? As long as the seat is held up by a steel frame, does it really matter if i'm 20-50 lbs over the weight capacity?
Answer:
20 to 50 pounds over the weight limit is not that important. You need exercise. That bicycle is made to support weight. Bicycles are rigid. As long as you are not jumping up and down while you are riding you should be fine.
|
Question : How effective are exercise bikes to shed pounds in the gut area?
In college I used exercise bikes frequently and it really helped my stamina when I ran long distances. Im just wondering if the exercise bike helps shed some stomach fat.
Answer:
Exercise does not burn fat in any selective area. You burn fat throughout your entire body. If you want to tone up your stomach areas, you should do some ab-specific exercises in addition to your cardio workouts.I do a lot of cycling, it's a great cardio workout and not as tough on the knees and joints as running is, although running and cycling work different muscle groups.
|
Question : How effective are exercise bikes in achieving weight loss?
I have just aquired an exercise bicycle from a friend of mine who was moving that didn't wish to take it with her. When I go to the gym (rarely) I usually use the elliptical machine, but since I have this bike now, I would much rather stay at home and workout. My question is for those of you who ride exercise bikes, is it really just as effective as other machines at weight loss, or will I have to ride at longer intervals to achieve any type of results? For the record, I'm 26 yrs old, 5'6 and weigh 130lbs, trying to get down to 120lbs, or at least stay in that range.
Answer:
stationary bikes are awesome for weight loss. Ever hear of spinning? That burngs nearly 800-1200 calories an hour. And you can do it now in your own home. Look up on google some spinning tips, and you'll be on your way to slimming down fast!! I have heard that bikes are the best way to lose weight..you're working out your abs, thighs, calves, butt. Do some arm movements while you're riding, and you'll slim down in no time.
|
Question : How accurate inaccurate are the calorie counters on exercise bikes?
Every day I hope on an exercise bike for about an hour or so. It usually says I burn somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 calories. I am wondering how close to this number I actually might be hitting. Are these bikes often off by a small amount like 100-200 calories.....or are they frequently off by 100s of calories?
Answer:
totally inaccurate, they are a rough estimate based on a certain gender of a certain height and weight of a certain age all of which probably dont apply to you unless you are mr or mrs average, i take absolutely no notice of them at all, i would say that on average someone would be burning off approx 600-1000 calories per hour but you would have to be really putting some effort in to get anywhere near that amount of calories burnt.
