Fine Product and Fair Price

Bought as gift for my daughter for the gym and jogging. She is very happy with this monitor and I was very happy with the price.

Love it

This is my first heart rate monitor and it works great. I have had no problems so far. It seems pretty accurate, although I don't know that I trust that the amount of calories it says I have burned per workout is accurate because it doesn't take into account my weight, age, etc. I highly doubt I burned 550 calories in a half hour workout....

Easy to use, easy to program. The chest strap is washable. And you cannot beat the price! Definitely a good investment for a great price.

Buyer be Aware!

After thoroughly researching this Timex heart rate monitor I concluded that since it was analogue technology the transmitter (chest strap) would communicate to my major name brand treadmill. It did not! I have tried several analogue heart rate monitors and they have all successfully transmitted a decipherable signal to my treadmill. Not so with this Timex watch. Secondly, I thought the watch had a "timer" on it. I enjoy timing my stretches and other things before and after my workout. This watch does not have a dedicated timer. I returned this product.

Rating :

works great. exactly what i was looking for.

it was exactly what i was looking for. it keeps track of your heart rate and calculates the calories you've burned. i definitely feel good after my workouts knowing how many calories are burned. i use it for the insanity program and i'm sure it would work great for runners to make sure you're in a fat burning zone.

Honest

I got the watch fast with amazon Prime. It came neatly packaged.

Upon opening it there are several things you will notice. For one, the watch is a lot darker than it appears in the photo. It is very hard to see either the hands of the watch or the digitial display. you can hit a button which luights it up but it lasts a whole 3 seconds.

Second, the watch is a lot smaller than I'd imagined. The size is given online so this is probably fault of my own, but it seems rather small.

Third, the band seems very low quality and is smaller than other rubber bands i have seen. The clasp seems very cheap almost like a cheap plastic and the band feels fragile and inadequate.

The fit on my wrist was less than appealing. Overall the watch is not bad its the band which makes it get a low rating. If you dont mind a dark watch with a small band the price cant be beat. Otherwise do some research and buy a slightly better watch.

classy

The watch is very beautiful, very good construction and light it doesn't seem for a cheap watch, it looks like a very expensive one. Definitely an excellent buy.

Sharp watch

This is a sporty watch with a very classy look. The value well exceeds the price. It is easy on the eye, and displays the time using analog simultaneously with the digital display in the same spot without interfering with the other. Nice blue illumination, and has all the standard features of a digital sports watch. It looks very nice on. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Sturdy Watch at a great price

A no frills sturdy watch for watersports that lasts a very long time. I had to replace my last gshock which I had for 8 years only after it ripped off my arm in the surf.

Rating :

Great for 11 year-old son - not too big and tough

I bought this watch for my 11 year-old son because he kept breaking the cheap watches we were buying. I was worried that the G-Shock would be way too big for his child-size wrists, but not a problem at all! The watch fits perfectly and he loves it. Sure it's big, but he likes that and wears his watch with pride. Don't be afraid to buy this for your son, grandson, or nephew.

Rating :

most comfortable G shock

Amazing rugged, very accurate, but most importantly...one of the most comfortable G Shock watches to wear. This comfort is do the band which is different from most G Shocks. I only wish that Casio offered more models with this type of band. If you have ever wished for a G Shock that fits like a regular watch then this model is the model for you.

Rating :

As expected - bulky but built to last

Classic G-shock - bulky, somewhat ugly, but sturdy and built to last. It's a bit heavy, so keep that in mind.

Excellent watch!

I bought this watch to my husband, when he received the gift He was very happy with his new watch! He loves G-Shock watches. Recommended!

Customer Review :

Great GPS!

First my profile: This is the first GPS I buy. I bought this watch 1 month ago. I am a high school runner and I am in the cross country team.

Good things: I live in Mexico and the reception is great! I had measured some courses and then tried them with the GPS and the accuracy is almost perfect even in bad weather conditions (including rain, clouds, wind, etc). Also the design is really nice, its the only gps I have seen and you can wear it all the time and it seem like an normal watch. One thing I didn't know about when I bought was the "Location" feature, it was a great surprise knowing my watch could point me too any location just by giving its coordinates. Also, I use my 405 with a friend that has the 405cx and we both use the heart monitor and the receptions don't get mixed.

Bad things: The garmin software in the computer is not really up too date but I guess that's not really neccesary. The bigger downside is the bezel, it took me about 2 weeks to get used to it, especially when running. It still gets a little bit stuck.

I totally recommend this Garmin.

Warning: Will fall apart

It has been about 7 months since I purchased this watch. Since then, I have had to replace the strap of the watch (the one which comes with it) twice. The bands are very difficult to replace. They charge you $15 (on Amazon), and give you a special tool to "decompress the springs" with. The tool has a tiny end which you have to fit in tiny sockets, to try and latch onto even smaller grooves on the springs.

As for the watch, after about 6 months I began to see rust appear on the screwws on the bottom of the watch and, more importantly, I believe, on the contacts where the charger hooks up to the watch and whereby the electricity is fed into the watch.

The surface bezel really looks cool, and it is, but it dents very easily and is very water (sweat) sensitive. There is a way to turn that off, though, but it is a little difficult.

The GPS reception (where I am, a suburb of Boston) is not too great. The real-time pace is not very accurate, but at the end of each run it is quite accurate of the total time and distance covered. (I run quite frequently with it, or, at least, did, until it became too much of a hassle, and simply replaced it with a $5.00 app on my iPhone)

The watch doesn't have great UI software, and it's a little hard to understand how to do things, such as set training exercises, set the running partner, etc.

But perhaps the most important thing that I discovered, I discovered while replacing the band for the second time (yesterday). There is a build up of some substance (perhaps salt, perhaps from sweat (?), but I don't sweat more than anyone else, probably less, with dry skin) inside the notches that the two band ends are supposed to plug in to. Very annoying. I am going to seek a full refund from Garmin.

Forego the Forerunner

First off, I love Garmin and most of it's products. This one, however, is a disappointment. In the first 4 months the product performed wonderfully, but since summer it has failed. If the touch bezel gets wet (SWEAT) it won't respond to the user. The bezel is also a pain to use while running. The battery went from lasting 10 days to only a 40 minute run. Stick with the 305 model with the push buttons, easier to read screen and heart rate monitor. Almost all the features on the 405 are identical to the 305.

Rating :

Just perfect.

This watch is just perfect to used by anyone: the ones who are starting to run and also the most skilled runners.

Love It

I love this product!!

Although you have to learn to use it, once you do, it really does the job.

It has lots of options on what to measure. I use it for running and sailing.

Comes with access to the "garmin connect" web site were you can see what you have done on google maps and google earth and share it. Plus lots of info, history, goals and health monitor.

Its a product that motivates me to workout more and harder.

Too bad the HR band dosen't connect with most of the equipment at my gym (like my old polar). Still is great for outdoors when using the GPS. Plus the watch is not that big and looks good to wear the rest of the day.

very simple product that does the job

I am a beginner runner and wanted to improve my performance. This is a simple gadget with no frills that works as advertised. I will recommend it to anyone. The only reason to go for a 4 star is that the heart rate in the watch and heart rate on the treadmills in the gym do not match but have a difference of +/- 5 bits even though both work on the same transmitter that I am wearing. But that is not a big concern to me as I am not preparing for the Olympics.

Rating :

good, does what it says - neat to see how fast my heart rate reacts to the workload.

We've been quite happy with this watch/monitor.

It easily adjusts between my wife and I, though I use the largest setting, and I wouldn't consider myself all that big of a person (190 pounds, 6'3"), so I'm not sure if it would be good for a large person.

The book/manual was helpful in getting it setup, and understanding some heart basics.

We mostly use it for biking.

I tried it swimming, and it was very sporadic, but I was swimming in light salt water (where the Connecticut river meets Long Island Sound, so somewhat brackish). Maybe it works better in fresh water.

My wife found it interesting that she would see her heart rate go up before she even realized she had started a slight incline on her bike.

I believe this product is better than most monitors, since it doesn't require you to touch it to see the reading, but continuously displays the heart rate.

It does make a tiny click/beep every time a heart beat is detected, which is mildly annoying, particularly if you are testing resting heart rates (while lying in bed, or while reading, etc). but once you get exercising, you don't notice the sound very much.

Rating :

Timex T5G941

Just a side note: This is my first heart monitor and I have not compared the numbers with gym heart beat monitors.
For the money the T5G941 is an excellent entry level heart monitor, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its problems. The start/stop button gets stuck and is hard to press. This has caused me to loss my workout stats multiple times. To get these stats you have to hold down down the start stop button after you have stopped a session. If you don't hold down the button long enough it will start a new session and cause you to loss all the information on the previous session. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

Rating :

Nothing Fancy

If you want a basic heart rate monitor for a low price this is the unit for you. Simple and easy to use, will record average heart rate as well as Max rate during your workout.

Rating :

Times heart monitor

I have not been able to get the heart monitor to work properly, despite a replacement sent to me by Timex. I suspect the battery is not current and will now replace that myself at an additional cost to me. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
